The Poet, the Painter and the Musician


The Poet: Amde Hamilton
As the co-creator of the world renowned Watts Prophets Amde Hamilton's work has been heard around the world. His poetry has been sampled by many of the famous rap artists of today, DJ Quick, the late Eazy-E, Too Short, Coolio, just to name a few. Amde has taught poetry as a healing tool for over 30 years in prisons, probation youth camps, schools, and universities nationally and internationally.

Amde Hamilton is also founder of the Hip-Hop Poetry Choir comprised of poets ages 10-25 from a variety of backgrounds. He continues to live not far from his childhood home, and is active daily in the Los Angeles multi-cultural arts community. He is Artistic Director for the Watts Prophets Community Education Association, Inc.

The Painter: David Brady
As a multi-media artist Brady's collage paintings and digital works have been featured in museums and galleries internationally. Recent exhibitions include UCLA/Hammer Museum, National Musuem of Art, Cuba, the International Center for the Study of Collage and the Turchin Center for the Arts.

The Musician: Mark Sims
Electric bassist and composer Mark London Sims is an outstanding musician capable of bringing his style and finesse to nearly any genre of music.From jazz to reggae, from African to hip hopmusic,

Sims' expertise covers the spectrum of the modern sound. He has lent his powerful tone and solid groove to such diverse artists as free jazz pioneer Don Cherry, reggae legend Joe Higgs, folk hero Ben Harper and hip hop queen Sonja Marie. Sims has performed throughout North America, Europe and China with Stevie Wonder, L. Shankar, Eddie Kramer, Dave Wakeling, Albert ŒTootie‚ Heath, Bennie Maupin, David Torn, and Badialy Cissoko to name a few.
