Back in the late '70s, when he was a student in Fillmore High School teacher John Brothers' art class, David Brady thought he might someday pursue a career in the field of art. And boy, has he ever!!

Since 1983, David Brady's works have been the feature of several one-man exhibitions and today his works are held in numerous private collections internationally. His work is currently on view in several galleries and corporate collections.

In 1998, David was awarded an "artist in residence" in Japan, where his work was featured at the renowned Kawaguchi Art Station. His work will hang in the Modern Art Museum in Toluca, Mexico from May 27 to August 15.

"I am interested in capturing human emotion..."
David Brady

Said David; "Painting for me is a constant process of exploration, research and education. The creative process is paramount in my approach to painting especially when it comes to experimentation.

"I need to attack each image through a different approach, a different method in order to keep the spontaneity and incorporate chance into the work. The theme in my painting has been constant throughout my life as I find the figure interesting, challenging and the most complex subject to study.

I am interested in capturing human emotion and thoughts in a concentrated narrative utilizing techniques, familiar objects and references to give the viewer their own map to understanding the image. I incorporate found objects and references to trigger different memories for each viewer. This is important to me, as I want each viewer to have an individual starting point when they first see the image. The involvement of the viewer is critical as the conversation and response evoked by the work is the final step of the process."

In recent years, David Brady's works have appeared in 16 selected exhibitions and nine publications and in the past four years he has won five high national awards.

Currently a resident of Los Angeles.
