The Mind Mask: An ongoing installation of portraits grouped together to raise awareness for the mental health crisis here in the U.S.
Making art to address my own personal journey started as a child. Not fitting in, along with my active and anxiety ridden mind, led me to sketching about an identity mask I began to wear. My drawings depict the face behind the mask...showing no gender or race, rather that of our similarity, our shared identity in a society inundated with mental health issues.
The Mind Mask is an ongoing series that continues to grow in the number of works as well as the size of the originals. Currently the installation contains more than 100 framed works that are ranging in size from 3x3 inches to 24x36 inches. The installation is purposely situated together to create a feeling of overwhelming congestion, compacted, and without escape per se.
Selected originals and limited editions from the installation are currently available to raise funds to continue the installation in future cities. The installation was exhibited in Santa Monica California in July, 2018 and in November in Phoenix, Arizona.
